On-Shore Activities Entertain Sailors on a Becalmed Day 3 at the RS Feva World Championships
Sailors woke-up to still and calm conditions on Day 3. The initial two-hour postponement was the start of a hot day waiting for the wind to fill in but there was plenty of action ashore to keep the sailors occupied. Aquavitesse had filled the RS sailors hub with games including table tennis, table football and competitive spirits were kept high with an arm-wrestling contest among other fun activities.
The race officer spent the day monitoring the wind and at around 15:30 he thought he found a good race area with some consistent light breeze. The AP flag came down at 15:45 and sailors released in their flights.
Three false starts for the Gold Fleet resulted in the black flag being deployed, which caught nine boats out. When the race was finally underway, unfortunately the wind died again, and the race officer had no alternative but to abandon the race.
Sailors returned to shore and made the most of the evening with a food truck festival extravaganza. Families and supporters joined in the festivities too and a great night was had all around.
