    UK Nationals a big success

    Monday, June 10, 2013

Thorpe Bay Yacht Club ran a superb championship for 93 boats. Over 4 days the weather was brilliant for 3. The winners Elliot Wells & Jake Todd sailed brilliantly but even so were hard pushed on occassion. The 2 Dutch boats that had come across both made the Gold Fleet and sailed well. Worthy champions, worthy opponents, terrific organisation, read the article…

And if you need any encouragement – the 2005 UK National Champion just came 5th in the 49erFX at the Eurosaf Grade 1 event in Medemblik, Netherlands! Well done Frances Peters! photo: Sander v.d. Superb Vinkeveen

    Sunday, April 7, 2013

The cancellation of the first United 4 event of the year didn’t stop the GBR and NED fleet from convening at the wonderful Vinkeveen for 3 days of training and racing. Congratulations to Eline and Olivier Tan for wrapping up the Dutch nomination for the prestigious Crown Cup in the Czech Republic in June. The following is a report from Dave Hivey (GBR coach): 5 British Feva’s travelled to the Netherlands over the Easter bank holiday weekend.  They were supposed to compete in the United Four event at Medemblik.  However due to the conditions with a week to go, the [...]

    Easter training in Spain Wow

    Thursday, April 4, 2013

Most of Europe was frozen rigid but the Costa Brava was wonderful. Rain on one day was a dampener but for the rest there was Chocolate-Easter-Bunny-Melting weather. The last day in particular turned it on with a gorgeous seabreeze kicking in during the coached racing. The coaching team of Jordi, Nicky Macgregor, Ant Chapman and Ollie Spensley Corfield had a grand time welding together the sailing skills from 7 nations – CZE, ESP, GBR, GER, LTU, NED, SWE. It wasn’t long before they were all responding with the correct manoeuvres when requested – Who needs the full United Nations toolkit [...]

1 in 10 Worlds entries CZE

The Czech RS Feva fleet is clearly blessed with lots of enthusiasm. Almost 1 in 10 boats entered for the worlds in Tuscany is from CZE. Having never had an entry at all before we welcome them with open arms and wish them well! Entries are now well into the 90′s so just keep ‘em coming in! The Czechs will have great company as new entrants to the fleet for they will have the Lithuanians there as well for the first time. Who else? The club is already looking forward to the event and assure us that great weather has [...]

Epic communication failure at Rutland

In the UK snow has ruled this last week – roads were closed, schools were shut, events were cancelled. But news that snow was preventing sport didn’t reach Rutland in one of the countries snowiest areas. The Rutland RS Feva Squad just carried on anyway having failed to notice anything unusual. The ex Feva sailors were also out practising team racing in Fireflies. The only medical treatment any sailor required was a result of Saturday night dancing. Video or Rutland failing spot anything wrong for sailing.

Bravo Euromed – GBR1, MLT2

One great Euromed later and congratulations to Elliot Wells & Jake Todd on a fine win from Andrew & Michela Mifsud and Jamie Smith & Piers Nicholls in 3rd. The Maltese challenge grows ever stronger. All 4 GBR boats were quality entrants and the fact that MLT manages to place 2nd and 5th amongst them is a sure sign of growing competitiveness. The final major duel out there was decided in favour of  Mule` Stagno Claudia & Suzanna Nikolic (MLT) who finished one behind Rusetskaya Anna & Kseniia Gromova (RUS) in the final race but still had a very slender margin in their [...]
